Am 1. Dezember 1923 stürzte der Gleno-Staudamm im Scalve Tal in der Provinz Bergamo (Lombardei - Italien) ein. Um 7.15 brach der zentrale Pylon des 260 Meter langen Damms zusammen und in weniger als 30 Minuten strömten zirka 6 Millionen Kubikmeter Wasser durch das Tal bis zum Iseo See und zerstörten alles, was sie auf dem Weg trafen. Mindestens 356 Menschen starben, die genaue Anzahl kennt man bis heute nicht. Der Staudamm war zwischen 1916 und 1923 erbaut worden. Deutscher Text nicht vorhanden The first known disaster due to the failure of mine tailings dams took place on 15th June 1915 in the mining village of Sewell, Province of Rancagua, Chile. After days of intense precipitation, there was a mud spill from the summit of the tailings dam’s embankment serving the Agua Dulce copper mine when it was in full activity. Following mud overflowing, the 61 m high embankment collapsed due to flow failure. Some 180,000 cubic metres of material leaked out of the impoundment.
